About 500 people opposed to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, were marching through downtown Montreal today in their support of Palestinians who were left without a homeland when the state of Israel was created 60 years ago. Each year, when Jews celebrate the birth of the Jewish state the Palestinian diaspora and their supporters commemorate Al Nakba which means- "the catastrophe" in Arabic. Waving black, red, white and green Palestinian flags, the demonstrators, including a number of Jews - marched east along St. Catherine St. towards the park behind Place des Arts, near the St. Laurent métro station.
