We are suffering the greatest threat in our recent history. Western governments are clearly behind Israel, no reactions against the Israeli massive bombardments of the Gaza Strip and daily incursions into the West Bank.
But why should the Western countries accuse Israel, while the Palestinian mainstream elitist groups are sleeping in the same bed with Israel and the Western donor agencies.
It is not only the Palestinian Authority represented by President Mahmoud Abbas who is doing a great job to help Israel realizes the Zionist dream of a Jewish State, but also Palestinian intellectuals and civil society organizations, who are engaged in an industry called “REFORM”. The peace industry is getting Palestinians forget that they are still under occupation.
When I watch all these events, initiatives, projects, reform talks and conferences taking place, I am at the same moment angry and sad. People in the suburbs of Ramallah cannot afford a taxi drive, while elites are organizing dinner meetings and conferences in big hotels, where they spend the money, that was donated to keep the Palestinian intellectuals silent.
I am sad to say that, but I am afraid that we do not have any Palestinian thinking class anymore; all are blind by the Euros and Dollars they get from these projects. Shame on us, we are selling our struggle for cheap pennies…
The situation is more complex as many can imagine when they think of the conflict with the Israeli enemy, but it is getting worse when you see the different groups who are profiting from the status quo.
I accuse first the Palestinian left who turned itself to be an ultra capitalist elite, then Hamas, who is destroying the Palestinian dream by unwise actions, and Fatah, who is arrogant and not able to change its way; at the end I would accuse western countries who support Israel. We have to start by ourselves and then think about the others.
I hope there are still some Palestinians who are able to say enough is enough and who will try to change the way how we are dealing with our internal problems.
Khalil
