Wheels of Justice tour kicks off, other actions

"What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans,
and the homeless, whether the mad destruction
is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the
holy name of liberty and democracy?"
Mahatma Gandhi

ACTION 1: It is really good to be in Washington state
on the first leg of the Wheels of Justice Bus tour this
year. The current team (Abbie, Harris, Mike, Bill and I)
got everything in shape and the bus running for tonight's
presentation at Evergreen College (Olympia). This will be
the sixth year of bringing eyewitness accounts to
US-funded occupations in Iraq and Palestine to the
average US citizen. So far we have a good schedule
but we like to be busier and you can help. If you live
in the US or know people in these areas, you can help
(no prior skills needed). Here are some ideas for you
to contact/explore. We do middle, high school and
college classes (we have done over 1500 of these).
We can do school assemblies, university and church
open events (we have done hundreds of these).
We can do mosques and other houses of worship.
We can do large events at community centers.
We can participate in rallies and conferences, do
book signings, and much much more.

This is a unique opportunity to help host and/or
aid a well organized program (you do not need to
worry about speakers, material, resources etc)
bringing eyewitness accounts to occupations in
Iraq and Palestine. We can guide you and assist
you in what is needed locally (booking events,
publicity, finding a host home for us to sleep at).
We also need a bus manager and more speakers
for later in the Spring.

Please check out our website http://justicewheels.org
(including a video) and look at the schedule below and
see where you can fit in or ask us (there is flexibility to
move around to nearby states and counties :-).

Study: Palestinian suicide bombers 'not mentally
unstable' By Rhonda Spivak
TORONTO - In an extensive study of Palestinian
suicide bombings, three University of Toronto
researchers have concluded that the bombers
were not psychologically unstable and were
often motivated by personal vengeance,
not religious zeal.

NY Times Letter:
Coverage of the Mideast Conflict
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/24/
opinion/lweb24mideast.html

To the Editor:

In "Speech on the Mideast Brings Opinions
to a Boil" (Our Towns column, Feb. 17),
about my presentation at the Greenwich Library
on the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians,
Peter Applebome scoffs at my belief in a principle
-based code of behavior, suggesting instead that
one simply takes a side on important issues —
a side, he implies, often tied to one's ethnicity.

But he does not mention that I state in my speeches
that many Israelis and Jewish Americans do not take
the side that Mr. Applebome's worldview would decree,
and instead act on the same principles of morality that
compel me.

I wonder if it is Mr. Applebome's "sides"
approach to life that caused him not to mention my
evidence that in the most recent uprising
(beginning on Sept. 29, 2000), Israeli forces killed
86 Palestinian children before a single Israeli child
had been killed and before a single suicide
bombing in Israel.

In our two-year study —
from Sept. 29, 2000, to Sept. 28, 2001,
and in 2004 — of The Times's coverage of Israel
and Palestine, we discovered that the newspaper
had covered Israeli children's deaths at a rate seven
times greater than it reported on
Palestinian children's deaths.

It is time to show equal concern —
and reporting — for all populations.
