The PA security elements in
Ramallah suppressed on Sunday
the funeral march of Sheikh
Majd Al-Barghouthi who was
tortured to death by the PA
intelligence apparatus in its jails.
Palestinian eyewitnesses told the PIC reporter that PA
security elements used without any warning a baton
charge on the participants in the funeral procession and
beat without mercy many Palestinian citizens who wanted
to bid farewell to Sheikh Barghouthi, a mosque
imam in Ramallah, who was loved and esteemed
by a large segment of the Palestinian citizenry.
The eyewitness also explained that the security
elements came unexpectedly from behind the
massive march and started to beat, drag and
round up a number of young men, adding that
a number of injuries in the heads and other
areas of the body were recorded in the ranks
of the funeral participants.
The assaults came within the framework of the
ban imposed by the PA chief Mahmoud Abbas
on Hamas in the West Bank, where it is barred from
holding any activity, including funerals, or
expressing its opinion in any way.
In a statement, Kamal Al-Sheikh, the chief of
the PA police in the West Bank, had threatened to
suppress any funeral march of Sheikh Barghouthi.
In the same context, Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, the
spokesman for the Hamas parliamentary bloc, held
PA chief Mahmoud Abbas, his illegitimate premier
Salam Fayyad and his intelligence chief Tawfiq
Al-Tirawi fully and directly responsible for torturing
to death Sheikh Barghouthi in the intelligence's
jails in Ramallah.
Dr. Bardawil explained that all kinds of excruciating
torture were practiced against Sheikh Barghouthi as
his hands were being shackled to the ceiling of the
torture room and his legs were hanging.
The spokesman revealed that the allegations of the
PA security apparatuses that Sheikh Barghouthi
died as a result of inflation in his cardiac muscle
was categorically denied by his family because they
know for sure that he was not suffering any health
problem; besides, the photographs taken for his body
shows clearly signs of torture and proves the
falsehood of Tirawi's version.
The spokesman underlined that the PA
intelligence apparatus, within the security
coordination with the Israeli occupation,
had kidnapped and tortured more than two
thousand Hamas cadres including women and
female students, adding that hundreds of them
are still in the PA jails in Ramallah and exposed to
torture at the hands of PA security elements.
The spokesman called on human rights organizations
and media outlets to have the courage to expose the
crimes committed by the PA security apparatuses in
the West Bank which claimed the lives of dozens of
Palestinians especially Palestinian resistance fighters
as a result of torture exercised in their jails.
