ALL THIS TALK – IT'S KILLING PEOPLE!

Blair calls for "urgency" in Mideast talks

Tony Blair has warned that the current round of Middle
East peace talks must be pursued with "greater
urgency and greater focus" if Israelis and Palestinian
are to achieve their goal of a peace agreement
by the end of the year.

Mr Blair said: "There are signs of economic activity
but it is not nearly enough to show Palestinians that
there is a viable prospect of statehood in the future."

Oh he's right there, there are signs of economic activity
alright, British Gas have pulled out all together, if these
people were truly honest brokers they would
have made this work:

Gaza siege intensified after collapse
of natural gas deal

Mark Turner, The Electronic Intifada
But the reasons may include motivations with roots
back in 2000, when the British firm British Gas
Group (BG) discovered proven natural gas reserves
of at least 1.3 trillion cubic meters beneath Gazan
territorial waters worth nearly $4 billion...
In January,
BG announced it was pulling the plug on negotiations
with Israel due to the long impasse, and was again
considering Egypt as a buyer. The Egyptian option
includes liquefying up to a third of the gas for export
to the US and Europe. BG announced plans to close
its office near Tel Aviv at the end of January and sell
its share in Israel's offshore Med Yavne natural gas
field. Since the announcement, Israel has radically
expanded its sanctions, cut fuel shipments entirely
and stepped up its military campaign. Increased air
strikes and use of internationally proscribed tank
shell ammunition has led to a drastic increase in
civilian deaths and injuries in hopes of eroding support
for Hamas in Gaza. Combined with dangerous shortages of
food, water and basic supplies, the coastal region has
fallen into catastrophe. Israel and the United States
refuse to acknowledge the growing chorus of
international condemnation.
If these people were serious they would realize
Palestine don't need handouts, it needs movement but
of course they know that. So why are people having
to beg for their livelihoods?

Gaza fishermen: "We are ready to work"

If these people were real, they'd sort this shit out:
Faeces Change the Face of Gaza
     Mohammed Omer
GAZA CITY - A stream of dark and putrid
sludge snakes through Gaza's
streets. It is a noxious mix of human
and animal waste. The stench is overwhelming.
 The occasional passer-by vomits.

While I'm glad to hear the New Internationalist
[is an independent not-for-profit communications cooperative.
 Our multi-award winning magazine,
New Internationalist, brings
to life the people, the ideas and the action in the fight
for global justice.] have chosen my 300 word, 'Reader's
Rant,' (I'm really pleased to tell you that we've decided
to use your piece to launch this new (March) section of the
Action supplement.) it is horrible to think predictions made
therein would seem accurate, where are we now? 90
dead due to denial of medical treatment - nice one Israel!
About as subtle as the Nazis…

Dear New Internationalist,

this is my contender, it's called,

End Siege on Gaza, Now!

A girl of five, gets thrown out of a car – it was hit
by an Israeli missile which killed four members of
her family – is left paralysed from the neck down
and unable to breath without medical attention,
I'm thinking, 'She is one of the luckier ones?'
How can that be?

Maria Amin, after a Supreme Court decision, was
granted to stay in the special unit of a Jerusalem
hospital, until January, so for the time being is getting
the treatment that human beings deserve. The same
would appear not to apply to residents of the Gaza Strip.

Since Hamas took over the Strip in June and Israel
declared them a hostile entity in September, the
Israeli government has put into effect a 'collective
punishment,' laid siege to the occupants and gradually
reduced fuel and supplies into the region. This, according
to sources, has lead to a dire humanitarian crisis.

By March 2008, if things continue at the same rate,
at least another 50 innocent people, including woman
and children, will be dead. Simply because of the
imposed restrictions of movement, which the Israeli
government insists, are necessary to protect its citizens.

What sort of threat can a newborn baby pose?
Dec 14th, Hala Zanon died, after repeated attempts
to have her treated abroad were denied. Hala was the
38th to die like this and by the turn of the year, was
joined by another six-year-old, when the total stood at 58.
Food lorries entering Gaza may be down to below 10%
of previous but death, by a denial of medical treatment,
is on the up and increasing.

The world's politicians and media need to 'wake up,'
the tragic consequences of this Siege are being
buried before the more affordable headlines and
the photo-opportunistic, 'peace talks.' This genocide
must stop! Visit the NI website: http://www.newint.org
Still, thank God, some people just get on with it:

PYN, Paz Ahora, and ISM attempt to break the
blockade by sending a 50,000 Euro medical
convoy into Gaza.
February 6th, 2008

[RAMALLAH] The Palestinian Youth Network (PYN),
together with the Spanish Paz Ahora Association,
and the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) in
Spain will deliver 50,000 euros worth of medicine to
United Nations-operated clinics in Gaza's eight refugee
camps.
