The Islamic resistance movement Hamas said on Friday
that US President George W. Bush's proposal of paying
"compensations" to Palestinian refugees was tantamount
to denying their right of return to homeland.
Speaking to Alalam TV, Hamas Spokesman
Sami Abu Zuhri, termed Bush's call
for a Palestinian state in his trip to Ramallah
"deception".
Abu Zuhri further noted that Bush's remarks at
his Thursday joint press conference with
Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas were
"dangerous" for Palestinians.
Hamas spokesman said: "Bush's calls for a
Palestinian state are cliché to us; and we perceive
he is deceiving Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims because
Bush has repeated this issue many times but has
never made any efforts to put it into practice."
Abu Zuhri further said: "This proposal can be
read as an annulment of Palestinian rights to return
to their homeland because Bush does not seek
Palestinian statehood according to 1967 borders,
but he speaks of demarcation of borders in the
Israeli regime's interest."
Hamas official also noted that "Bush aims to
hatch plots to undermine resistance and sow the
seeds of discord among Palestinians by asking the
Palestinian Authority to fight resistance forces."
"Bush did not defend Palestinian victims in his
speech, but he called for fighting against the legitimate
resistance of Palestinians which is a provocative act against
Palestinian national forces," Abu Zahri said.
Hamas spokesman further said that the US president,
during his term in office, has made no efforts in favor
of Palestinians, but on the contrary, has always been
after displacing Palestinians by quashing their right of
return to their homeland.
He also denounced Mahmoud Abbas' participation in
talks with the occupiers, saying "Abbas held talks with
the occupiers despite the opposition voiced by
Hamas."
The spokesman added Hamas had reminded
Abbas that "these negotiations have
born no results for the Palestinians in past years.
