Palestine-Israel Talks End, No Deals

The resumed Palestine-Israel talks ended on Wednesday without solid results, after tensions between the parties increased in the last few days.

The meeting was held under the commitment made on November 27 at the Annapolis conference by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who agreed on getting results before ending 2008.

This first meeting lasted over one hour and tension prevailed due to the recent measures adopted by Tel Aviv to enlarge settlements and continue military incursions in Gaza Strip, in which eight Palestinian died in the last few hours.

Added to that is the response of the Palestinian resistance, firing missiles onto Israeli territory, which was hit by various rockets today.

Unidentified Israeli sources revealed that Palestine demanded Tel Aviv stop planning 307 houses to be built in Har Homa, East Jerusalem, and the attacks against the Gaza population.

Abbas-Olmert commitment in Ananpolis is subjected to the enactment of guidelines included in the Road Map, with the Israeli withdrawal from settlements first.
