Protest fundraising for Canada Park by the JNF

On Sunday December 2, the Jewish National Fund (JNF) of Toronto is holding its annual Negev Fundraising Dinner at the Sheraton Centre Hotel on Queen and Bay. The targeted $7M raised during the campaign leading up to the dinner will be used in the renewal and rejuvenation of Canada Park– a park illegally established in 1973 on the ethnically cleansed
and destroyed West Bank Palestinian villages of Imwas, Yalu, and Bayt Nuba with funds from the JNF of Canada.

In 1967 the ten thousand inhabitants of the villages were forcibly displaced by the Israeli military in a premeditated act of ethnic cleansing. To prevent their return the villages were immediately destroyed. In a further illegal act, the area, which is located behind the Green Line, was annexed by Israel. Canada Park consolidates this illegal situation and at the same time covers up the evidence of these war crimes.

Canadian Taxpayers will be contributing a large proportion of the targeted $7M raised at this dinner through the charitable status of the JNF, an organization which has played a major role in the ethnic cleansing of Palestine by transferring land stolen from Palestinians
to the Jewish citizens of Israel and in covering up the destruction of Palestinian towns and villages through the creation of forests and parks such as Canada Park.

The "December 2 Committee" is a broad coalition of groups and individuals who have come together to plan educational and protest events/actions focused on this fundraising dinner. We will be drawing attention to to this very blatant example of Canadian complicity in
Israeli Apartheid and will be demanding that the Canadian Government revokes the charitable status of the JNF. Groups involved in organizing this campaign include Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid (CAIA), SAIA, Jewish Women Committee to End the Occupation (JWCEO), Not In Our Name (NION), Yosher, No One is Illegal, OCAP and Labour for Palestine.
