Al-Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition condemns the PA's ill-treatment of Palestinians demonstrating against the Annapolis international conference in the occupied West Bank. Heavily-armed, baton-wielding members of Mahmud Abbas' Presidential Guards in charge of enforcing the PA's prohibition on demonstrations, attacked peaceful protestors in Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Nablus, and Jenin.
In Hebron, Palestinian security forces shot and killed one protestor, Hisham Baradi, and wounded injured others.
In Ramallah, the Presidential Guard beat and arrested tens of demonstrators, including Jamal Juma, the coordinator of the Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Camping, Mu'mmar Urabi, director of Al-Watan T.V. Both men were released later. However, many others continue to languish in PA prisons.
Today's developments come less than two weeks after PA security officiers laid seige against El-Ein refugee camp in Nablus in an attempt to arrest resistance fighters.
Al-Awda calls on its members and supporters to contact the PLO Office in Washington, D.C. to voice their indignation at the PA's suppression of peaceful protest , and to demand the immediate release of all arrested Palestinians.
