Israeli Lobby Feature on CBC

The Current: Part 2

Israeli Lobby Feature

Two American academics are causing some shock and awe over their writings on the U.S. Israeli Lobby. Their theories are considered by critics to be so objectionable that they set off a furor even before they'd been published.

It all began in 2002 when The Atlantic Monthly commissioned an article by two leading experts on international relations. They were asked to write about the role American-Israeli relations play in US foreign policy. 2 years later the article was dead, killed by the magazine forcing the professors to go shopping for a new publisher. It finally went to print last year unleashing a firestorm of criticism. Calls of anti-semitism.

Now the authors have spun their article into a book called, The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy. And with that another literary grenade has been lobbed into the political arena.

To discuss his argument and the intense reaction to it, we were joined by co-author John Mearsheimer. He teaches political science at the University of Chicago.
