IOA blocks treatment of Palestinian cancer patients

Gaza - The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) has turned down requests of Palestinian cancer patients to receive treatment outside the Gaza Strip where no proper medical treatment for that fatal disease exists, a PA health ministry official charged.

Dr. Moawiya Hassanein, the director of ambulance and emergency department in the PA health ministry, said that the patients are well known to the IOA and had previously traveled for treatment.

The Israelis refuse to allow 80% of the blood cancer patients to leave the Strip for treatment and only allow the extremely urgent cases, he elaborated.

Hassanein said that the IOA denies passage for Gaza patients seeking better treatment in the 1948 occupied lands or the West Bank in view of the lack of advanced medical treatment in the Strip.

He said that IOF soldiers block ambulance cars and when they allow them access they wait for long hours for arbitrary search procedures.
