Six Palestinians, including three members of the Hamas armed resistance wing Al Qassam Brigades, were killed at dawn this morning when Israeli forces invaded the Al Maghazi Refugee Camp in the central Gaza Strip. Additionally, five Israeli soldiers were wounded, two of them seriously.
According to Palestinian security sources, Israeli forces penetrated some 900 meters into the Gaza Strip and then proceeded to occupy houses on the outskirts of the refugee camp. The forces turned the houses into military barracks and positioned snipers on the rooftops. Eyewitnesses said the Israeli forces then began launching rockets towards civilians at the nearby mosque.
Medical sources told PNN that six Palestinians were killed in the incident and that some 45 others were taken to a nearby hospital for injuries. Those killed include Sa’ed Qandeel, Mohammad Abu Ashibh, Mohammad Albshiti, Mohammad Fuad Abu Shuiba, Issa Al Din Al Qassam, and Ahmed Awad Aleneami.
Israeli sources asknowledged the injury of five Israeli soldiers, and stated that the soldiers had been transferred to a hospital in Beersheba. Two of the soldiers are in critical condition.
The invasion comes just one day after Israeli forces withdrew from the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun after killing seven, wounding dozens of others, and destroying major infrastructure
