Israel and the United States walkout on UN conference

Posted by macgeek at Digital Journal

During the UN (United Nations) Conference of Disarmament talks, the US and Israeli representatives walked out. The walkout occurred after the Iraqi foreign minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, accused Israel of causing many of the threats to the Middle East. Mottaki did not use the word "Israel," but referred to them as "the Zionist regime." Which he went on to say, "a long and dark record of crimes and atrocities such as occupation, aggression, militarism, state terrorism, crimes against humanity and apartheid."

The Israeli ambassador, Yitzhak Levanon, stated that the Iraq remarks were so offensive that he just left. "He went too far," said Levanon.

"Officials at the US Mission to international bodies in Geneva confirmed that the American delegation also walked out."
